UW-Stout Starts the Season 4-0

We are off to a great start after a 13-12 overtime win yesterday over River Falls. It was a great game and a great atmosphere with homecoming festivities going on. This week we play at Stevens Point.

Our staff is busy not only coaching but also with our recruiting responsibilities. Each day film is coming in of potential recruits that want to play Blue Devil Football. We are in the process of evaluating potential recruits that we will invite to join the team next fall. We need some young players to come in and play as freshman. This is an exciting time to be a part of UW-Stout Football.

NFL Scout Visits Stout

Shemy Schembechler, a scout from the Washington Redskins, was in camp yesterday to get a closer look and talk to Marcus Ball. Mr. Schembechler was at practice watching individual time and looking at Ball go through drills. He also took a look at last years game film of Ball. Shemy is the son of legendary coach Bo Schembechler. I'm sure this will be the first of many scouts to take a closer look at the Blue Devil All-American.

2nd annual Watermelon Scrimmage

The UW-Stout football completed their second annual Watermelon Scrimmage this past Saturday. Huge plays where made on both sides of the ball. Fall camp has been extremely competitive with the O and D taking their shots at each other. Camp has been very upbeat, high tempo with tons of enthusiasm. Most importantly, we have had none of our players leave camp or receive any serious injuries. Today we head to the Whitetail golf course for our second annual golf outing. Everyone is fired up for this.

Ball, Newholm make Preseason Wisconsin DIII Football Team

UW-Stout football players Marcus Ball (Sr, Austin, Minn) and Nate Newholm (Sr, Burlington) are featured in this month’s edition of the Inside Wisconsin Sports magazine. The duo are members of the inaugural Preseason Wisconsin Division III Football Team.

We are expecting great things from these two this season. They both serve as our Team Captains. Ball is trying to improve on his All American 2008 season where he was 1rst in the country in total tackles for loss and was 4th in the country in total sacks. Marcus is a 2009 Pre-Season All-American in numberous publications.

Newholm will look to improve on his second team all conference selection in 2008, his first year playing offensive line. What makes this accomplishment even more impressive is the fact that Newholm made this switch from deep in the defensive line depth chart to starting left tackle spot in one year. Not bad for a guy who never played offensive line before in college.

Keep a close eye on these two senior captains. Here is a link to their video of their photo shoot.
